It really wasn't that odd ...
to be riding in a broken down taxi van with sixteen people crammed into seating for eight. That strikes me as funny. We catapulted along at a speedy 30 miles per hour stopping every six miles or so to retie the back hatch which was holding my back rest in place and keeping me from flipping out of the back of the van. I guess the oddity of it to me is that it wasn't strange, nor was I irritated with the fact that the trip normally only takes fifty-five minutes (when I drive myself) and on this day it was taking over three hours. My how we change and adapt to different circumstances and surroundings. When considering this, I find it difficult to fit Togo into my logical construct. It seems no longer foreign to me, yet, isn't it supposed to be? It seems now to be an extension of my "known" world, as if it was a new state remotely conjoined to the good 'ol US of A (like, perhaps Hawaii or something). My what an interesting journey God has taken us upon. I wonder if Abraham ever found himself saying that to Sarah? I wouldn't trade it for anything, though. To see Him changing lives and freeing the enslaved daily and getting to play even a small part in it is more than I could have imagined.

what an honor to be the first to comment!
First of all, I understand your getting in touch with aging -- because that's what my title "fading yet renewing" is about -- but "middle-aged"? I would say middle aged is at least 45 or 50 -- I don't think it means halfway through life, because who knows how long we'll live? Also, "occasional" golfer?? I think it should say frequent, at the very least! :)
I'm glad for the "ten minute" part of your title. That will be a reminder to me to stay focused on what I should be doing, too.
God bless you, brother.
If you are middle aged, what does that make your mother? I haven't reached middle age yet!! You need to check your state of mind.
Much love, MOM
Well, Jenna it seems that you and my mother have taken "issue" with the title "middle aged". Mom, you have testified to your youth in being able to post a comment on your son's blog. Jenna, I am seeing if the descriptor "middle aged" will add maturity to my state of being, and as for the frequency of my golf, sshhh...
well, you know, I was returning from getting the car worked on and I just happened to be in Lome and as the occasion arises and allows ...
